First Jindy trip of the season!

Headed to Jindy for my first trip of the season to compete in rails for the Thredbo Freeride Series. Was a fun comp and so good to catch up with all my snow family again! Taking away $100 for 3rd place, Jess Rich coming in 2nd and Wiki Jones 1st place, both killing it on the rails!

Just a quick update.....

I have just been selected on the National Snowboard Team for Slope Style. :)

And heading down to Jindy next weekend for the first comp of the season.

Then off to NZ in August for 3 weeks and a few comps

Apart from that I have been having an awesome time being back home for a couple of months, just hanging out and catching up with friends.

Jr Worlds was a lot of fun!!!

All 3 aussie's representing and making it to the finals. I qualified 4th in my heat, but unfortunately crashing my runs in finals and finishing 11th.

It was a fun trip and now i'm back to Mammoth to finish up my season with some spring riding :)

Arrived safely (only just) to our hotel in Chiesa Valmalenco after making our way through the crazy roads and crazy drivers for some shopping in Milan.

Was a funny trip trying to get there with the GPS hardly working and the streets seemed like they should have only been one way and then having no street signs didn't really help either, but we managed to get there in the end.

Did mostly window shopping at all the designer shops, but it was a cool little spot with a great atmosphere and a lot of people.

We had the opening ceremony for the Jnr Worlds yesterday. It was awesome, felt like I was in the olympics or something. Everyone from around the world walked through the streets together with a band up the front and people would be standing out the front of their houses watching.

Today is March 25th, exactly a year since I broke my back and I would say I have come along way since then, I still have to do some pain management but I am back at Denver airport yet again, on my way to compete at the Jr Worlds for slope style in Italy.

So thanks so much again to my surgeon Dr Sekhon, Nevada Neurosurgery and everyone who helped me out at the hospital, couldn't have done it without you! :)

I had a nice few days off from snowboarding in Connecticut. I spent a day in Central Park, and Central Park Zoo with Biba and now I am back to what feels like my second home in Breckenridge for a few days training.

I have just arrived in Connecticut after competing in the Rev tour at Mt Snow taking away 1st place along with $500 of winnings which means shopping in New York tomorrow!!! It also means that I qualify for the Jr Worlds in Italy next week!

So unfortunately I have to cut my trip short in NY, head back to Breck for 4 days of training and then off to Italy to compete!

Campus Rail Jam

Headed down to Boulder last friday night with some friends for the Campus Rail Jam Tour. Was my first comp with the scaffolding layout and was definitely the funnest comp I have been in. It was a jam session, so everyone was dropping at once. There were 3 features, a down rail, a kink rail and a mini box to gap.
I went really well and made the finals, I didn't place but I got invited to the tours finals in Portland. :)
I have to thank Belmore, Iver, Jason and Jack for getting me psyched and coaching me throughout the comp :) and Lu Lu for cheering me on and recruiting some randoms for a cheer squad!!!

2011 has been an awesome year so far!

I started the year off right with partying on the party bus then headed to a STS9 concert in Denver and finishing up back on the party bus. Then off to Vegas for my 19th for a helicopter ride over the grand canyon and my brothers 21st for some gambling.

My riding has finally picked up, it has been a lot harder then I thought it would be getting back into it since breaking my back, but I'm feeling way more confident on the jumps and getting my back 5's again, so stoked!

Been in 2 comps so far this season, came 1st in the slope style USASA and then 8th in the Gatorade Free Flow, unfortunately not landing either of my runs.

And then today...just got back from the sickest pow day ever!! Was such a fun day, freshies everywhere!! and then some tree runs in the arvo!

Guns N' Roses

On Saturday at Homebush in Sydney was the V8 races, me jumping off a scissor lift onto the massive airbag that was used at Thredbo this year, Tony Hawk skating the vert ramp, and seeing Spiderbait and Guns N' Roses live (they were awesome!!).....was a great way to spend my last day in Aus!

Then today off on the plane for the best plane trip ever!!! Managed to get a complimentary upgrade to business class from Sydney to LA with movies, 3 course meals and fully lay down seats!!!! After all that it didn't even bother me that I had a 6 hour stop over in LA and another 2 hour flight to Denver, a 3 hour wait at the airport and finally a 2 hour drive to Breck.

Got all my stuff unpacked and ready to ride tomorrow!!! :)

Winter is coming up so fast, only 3 days to go until Breckenridge, Colorado.

I finished up work about a month ago so I could hang out and spend some time with friends before I head off again for 4 months or so....I have been spending my days just soaking up some sun and getting as much summer in as I can, even went for a surf a few times on the mini mals AND stood up pretty much every wave!! haha

I've been fairly consistent with my training, been doing some pretty intense training sessions on the beach once a week with my trainer, after that I have decided I am not a big fan of running, especially on sand!

Also I have been doing a bit of modelling on the side for something different, I did a catwalk for melbourne cup and a few photo shoots...I'm even going to be in a commercial!!!! It's been heaps of fun!

Had my Dad's 50th last weekend, we went to sydney and stayed at the penthouse at world towers!!! No one wanted to leave the room, it was so nice, Stuey had a great weekend and loved our present where he got to fly a helicopter!!

The Back is Fully Healed!!!

It has been about 6 months since I broke my back and had 6 screws and 3 rods put in. I had my final CT scan and check up with the specialist the other day and it has fully healed!

So, I have come away from this injury with a bit of metal, a 28% shrinkage in the back of my vertebra, a 6 degree bend in my spine (which according to the doc is nothing) and a nice, long, clean scar for the memories!

Aussie Snow Season Spent At Home...

The snow season is almost over and I have managed to get down twice so far, with maybe one more trip to come. Luckily (for me) it hasn't been the best season so I’m not too worried. This is probably the longest I have been home in one go for years! My first trip to Jindy this year was a bit disappointing as there was pretty much no snow!! However, I went and watched the first Australian World Rookie Fest which was an awesome comp to watch! Then I went down again just as the snow picked up and cruised around perisher. My back was fine, but a bit sore for maybe a week after riding.

Other than that, I’ve been working and trying to save some money for my next big trip! I got in the latest snowboarder mag, a 2 page spread just about my back, but I had a pretty cool riding shot in there. I’m also starting to get fit for when I am riding again, I know I say that all the time and I get full into the gym for about a week and then stop for a month and then say I’m going to get fit again and it just keeps going on like that. But this time I have started up at Hot Power Yoga, which is just yoga in a really hot room and that’s really good, and I got a training programme written up for me so I actually have to do something this time, so i hope it lasts longer than a week! :P I’ll keep ya posted!

Spare Change "The Movie"

Went to Melbourne for the first time last weekend for the premier of Spare Change. I hung out with Belmore and Ash Friday night and they took me to some country bar in the middle of nowhere. There was a lot of cowboys and some drunk guys in women's lingerie... it was hilarious! On Saturday arvo the turnout of the premier was pretty good and Spare Change was awesome. We all had a good night watching the movie and also at the after party...

A few of us got a hotel room in the city that was near the club we ended up at so none of us had to find a way back home.

It was a bit of a stretch seeing I couldn't get Sunday off work. I don’t know how I did it but I managed to get back to the hotel around 3- 4 am, had to get up at 5am to get a taxi to the airport, get home, get ready for work and then start work at 10am, it was a mission, but I made it.

And it was a fun weekend and good to catch up with everyone from Breck again, so it was worth it.

Nitro Circus

I entered an action photo comp a few weeks ago, the winner got tickets to see Nitro Circus...I wasn't that winner...... However, I was the lucky voter who also won tickets! I took Gina along with me, and it was awesome!!!! They are crazy! Looks like fun though, I think I want to learn how to ride a motorbike!

After that me and Gina headed out in Sydney, I think my feet were about to fall off by the end of the night, which is a sign of a good time and we stayed at a backpackers, and then back home the next day for work.

I got a job at Proski, so far I have done 3 shifts and I'm not fired yet so, so far, so good. I also found my picture on a tag on the new Billabong gear, I was pretty excited...it's not every day you’re on a clothing tag!!!

The new Snowboarder Mag has come out and I got a sick shot in that, along with my brother who got a sweet checkout. It's good to see a lot of friends in the mags, especially all the crew in the film Spare Change!
I've been accepted into the Australian team for the World Junior Championships in NZ, unfortunately it's in August and I doubt I will be up to throwing hammers by then.
However, my back is going really well, been to the physio a few times and have started doing some fit ball classes to get it strong again!
I have also been doing a bit of my own recovery methods of going out on the town and having a good time! :)

It has been exactly one month since I broke my back and it is feeling great! I went to the specialist yesterday and he said to get another check up in 5 months time, so until then no snowboarding and no activities that could compress my back. But, other than that it seems to be healing well and I can get back to all other activities normal again...so party time!!

And, I no longer need to wear my back brace

I also started my first Spanish class today, only have a few words memorized so far but it's a good start.

Home Sweet Home

So I ended up flying first class to LA but I would hardly call it first class. Because it was just a short trip it was a tiny plane and the only special thing about it was we got to sit up the front. But, the flight to Sydney was the best flight of my life. I don’t think I can ever go back to a 14 hour trip in economy class again! The seats fully lay down, it had massive TV screens and even the food was pretty good for plane food. Our flight got delayed 2 hours on the run way but I didn’t mind at all. I slept most of the way and watched a few movies. Got pushed around in a wheel chair at each airport and hung out in the First Class lounge with free food! Then we had one more flight to Newcastle. The plane was almost as small as the hospital plane I was on but it was only a 45min trip and I slept the whole time.

I’ve been home for 4 days now and it’s so good to see everyone again. I have to wear a back brace for 6 weeks so at the moment all I have to do is just hang out and relax. And I get a bit better every day so I’ll be back on a board in no time...

Broken Back

Ok so, it was the first practice day for the Roxy Chicken Jam, and it was awesome! The jumps were huge and really smooth. I was having the best day hitting them and even spinning all of them.

Unfortunately, the next day was not so good. It was my very first hit of the first jump and I was just going in to check the speed before spinning, and I came up just a bit too short, landing on my board to my ass and my back took all the impact.

I came down on a blood bucket, went off to Mammoth Hospital where I got an X- ray and a CAT scan and found out I had broken my back, I had compressed my 9th vertebrae!! So they flew me off on this mini plane with Christine to Reno Hospital, there I got some more CAT scans and was told I needed surgery!!! I ended up getting 2 rods with 3 screws on each side and a cross rod. Even though that sounds bad they said it turned out better than expected.

It was so good to have Christine with me to look after me and I even had a few visitors, Nick visited one night and Belmore, Rothy and Ash the next night with a cute teddy for me :) It’s amazing how just seeing someone or some flowers can brighten up your day. Christine had to leave Monday so luckily my mum flew over from Australia to help me out which was the best thing that could have happened.

So I spent the night in hospital and got surgery the next day, I remember them putting the stuff in me to knock me out and then the next thing I know I was waking up 4 hours later even though it was a 2 hour surgery.

After the next couple of days they took out the drip and the morphine and tried to get me on the right kind of drugs and they were probably the worst days of my life. But now I am feeling much better and I left the hospital today to stay at the grand sierra resort for a few nights and hopefully, with my fingers crossed I'll be flying home first class!!!

Mammoth

Last night shot a bridge rail over a little creek. The first time I checked it out I was pretty scared and didn't think I would hit it. But I went to do it last night and once I got the hang of it, it turned out to be really fun, especially because everyone in the house came to help out.

Then today I have arrived in Mammoth via Reno where I won about $2 on the pokies at the airport while I was waiting for my connecting flight!

I'm in Mammoth for the Roxy Chicken Jam, got here around 5pm and it was still so hot and sunny, even by 7pm I still could have been wearing my sunnies outside and there is still heaps of snow left

Can't wait to check out the park!

Spring!

So I've been a bit slack on my blog lately, but not too much has happened in the last month.

I have fully recovered from my concussion and have been having fun riding in this beautiful sunny spring weather.

Been working on my goggle and sunnies tan and today I have even been sunbaking out on our deck, it’s been sooo hot!

I have also been getting my spin on and attempted my first front and back 7’s, there not too far off.

And last night did some modelling with a couple of blue steels for a profile shot with Tim out in the yard till around 12am. It was pitch black and a bit scary with the coyotes howling, but we got the shot! haha

Back on snow!!!

Today was my first day back on snow since my concussion. After a couple more tests I finally got the OK to go ride again after a loooooong 3 weeks of sitting at home and watching a lot of movies.

Had a cruisy day just riding around with Timmy. It was sooo much fun, after having so much time off snow it just reminded me of how much I love snowboarding. I'll have a few days just getting back into and then

I can't wait to get back to spinning off the big jumps!

Always Wear a Helmet!

So hasn't been the best week ever...

It started off good, went to the SIA trade show in Denver, checked out all the booths of my sponsors and meet all the reps, then spent most the day going from booth to booth finding all the free food. At the end of the day turns out Pamela Anderson is coming to do a signing, the line was massive but luckily we knew someone at the front of the line.

Had a few rest days after that and then headed to the Canadian open where it all started to go down hill...the very first day of practice, first run of hitting the jumps and I wasn’t even doing anything cool, just a straight air and came off balanced off the take off to don’t really know what, but hit my head pretty hard, luckily I always wear a helmet. Ended up in the hospital for most of the day not remembering a thing, I still have no clue to much of what happened that day. Had my very first and hopefully last ever CAT scan. But then got another one a couple days later and been to the hospital 2 more times within the last week which sucked! Fortunately it was nothing too major just a severe concussion that will get better with some rest and puts me off snow for about 2 weeks. Our house is a bit of a hospital ward at the moment. Jack has just got home with a knee reconstruction and Nick with a chipped bone on his ankle.

Other than that, all the TSC crew have gone back to Aus and there are a new bunch of people living in the house.

Australia Day!

Started Australia Day off with some Aussie tattoos and jeans to go riding in, seemed like a stupid idea when we headed out in the morning seeing it was -15 degrees Celsius. But luckily it warmed up by the time we got to the top of the gondola. However, it was a good day and the jumps were perfect so we only did a couple of runs and then headed home to get changed so we could get some serious training done. I finally hit the big Free Way line today and they are so much fun, I don’t know why I didn't hit them earlier. I even spun off the first one!

Came 2nd today in the slope style Gatorade comp! Was pretty stoked I finally landed my run in a comp this year. The weather wasn't fantastic, it was cold and a bit snowy but the jumps were still good. My run was cab 1 stale fish, back 3 tail to nose grab and then board slide on the flat down box to 270 onto the up box. The speed was a bit slow so I only got to do my safety run, didn't get around to attempting any 5's.

Yesterday i injured my hip so just had a chill day today. First thing in the morning I got an amazing massage and then came home to do a whole lot of nothing, watched some movies, had a bit of a creep on face book and when everyone came home from riding we chilled in the backyard and started making a butter box.

The trip so far...

I arrived in Breckenridge, Colorado on the 6th of December 09, to stay on the TSC camp. Breckenridge is definitely up there with my top favourite resorts. The park here is amazing and the jumps are pretty much perfect! We have had mostly sunny days with only a couple of powder days.

I have been learning so many new tricks and looking good at the same time with all my new billabong gear, got my front 3’s on lock, front n’ back board slides on down rails, front lips, cab 1’s and 3’s, got some front, back and cab 5’s but not on lock just yet, and I did my first urban street rail which was pretty fun. I’ve been in 2 comps so far, the Gatorade free flow tour in Vail and the Revolution tour at Mt Snow, Vermont. Unfortunately didn’t go too good, stacked my runs in both comps, but there is still plenty more to come.

I have also had some good times off the snow...New Years I went to a house party and got involved in the American spirit with a bit of beer pong. Had a fun night for my 18th, went out to dinner with a bunch of Aussie’s and partied hard at a house party afterwards. Then the next day was my brothers 20th , and we went out for some of the best sushi. Went paintballing and my team kicked ass in every game. I only got hit 3 times n came out of it with only 1 bruise
